Aloe Vera: Tale of the Miracle Plant

Aloe Vera is one of the most discussed, but least understood plants in the history of medicinal plants. But the benefits of this plant have been handed down through centuries. The earliest documented use of Aloe Vera comes from the ancient Egyptians, but it was also grown and used by King Solomon, who was said to have valued it highly. The island of Socotra was conquered by Alexander because he needed Aloe for his army. Muslim prophet Muhammad (S:) said “in two bitter things there is healing, Aloe and Thuffa”. The Holy Quran also mentioned the benefits of Aloe plants.

Aloe Vera is a stem less or very short-stemmed succulent plant growing to 30-36 inches tall. It is a species of Aloe, native to Northern Africa. This plant basically flourishes in warm and dry climates. It looks like a cactus to some extent with fleshy thorny leaves. There are over 300 species of Aloe, but it is the Aloe Barbadensis Miller plant which is mostly used by the people because of the medicinal properties it displays. A fully grown Aloe Vera plant is 30-36 inches long. The leaf is 2.5-3 inches wide at the base. The weight is 1.5 to 2 kg. There are mainly four layers in an Aloe leaf. First, there is Rind which is the outer protective layer. Then there’s a layer of bitter fluid which is called Sap. Mucilage Gel, which is the inner part of the leaf, that is filtered out to make Aloe Vera gel. Then comes to the main Aloe Vera inner gel, that contains the 8 essential Amino Acids that human body needs but cannot manufacture.

As Aloe Vera is so important for human body, it is essential to understand what type of Aloe Vera Gel is best and which brand of Aloe Vera is better than others. Barbadensis is the best type of Aloe Vera plant which can give 100% pure raw Aloe Vera Gel. And Forever Living is the brand which uses these Barbadensis plants to get the gel in order to manufacture their own Forever Living Aloe products.
